The Magic of Shoormal

Magical skies on Skye

The cottage lies less than 100 meters from the shore at Ardmore on the Harlosh peninsular, and is surrounded on three sides by the wild beauty of Loch Bracadale. Here, the sun rises over the Cuillins, lights the sea to the south over Canna and sets in the west over MacLeod's Table.

Skye means the 'misty isle' and here in Shoormal we experience the reality of that. Our skies are dramatic. We have our own unique micro climate - it's often sunny here when it's raining elsewhere.

Shoormal nestled beside the coast

Whatever the weather the scenery is always stunningly beautiful and the short walk to 'Harlosh Point' is always rewarding.

We share our space with otters, sea eagles, dolphins, kites, cormorants, shags, a large hare which occasionally takes a walk into the drive and of course the sheep. Harlosh point is recognised by the RSPB as one of the best places to see Sea Eagles in Great Britain.

The rocky seashore around Shoormal

The rocky seashore is a short walk from the house. The half-mile walk from Shoormal to Harlosh point and back is exceptional - you must do it at least once while you are here!!

You can barbeque on the rocks by the seashore, beach comb and go crab fishing.

Climb down to the large sea cave called the 'Golden Cave'.

Watch out for Sea Eagles and otters. We occasionally get Minke Whales and brown sharks (peaceable vegetarians) in the waters around Harlosh point.

The rock pools are full of life throughout the year. You can enjoy exploring them all around the coast.
